The Top Ten Films of 2007, by Pamela Kerpius

1. The Diving Bell and The Butterfly (J. Schnabel)
2. Private Fears in Public Places (A. Resnais)
3. Starting Out in the Evening (A. Wagner)
4. Juno (J. Reitman)
5. Eastern Promises (D. Cronenberg)
6. The Man From London (B. Tarr)
7. The Host (B. Joon-ho)
8. Brand Upon the Brain (G. Maddin)
9. The Darjeeling Limited (W. Anderson)
10. Everything I saw from the Pedro Costa retrospective: Down To Earth (1994), Where Lies Your Hidden Smile (2001), and Colossal Youth (2006).
I've already bent the top ten rules by adding two extra in the #10 slot, so whatever, I'm going to push things further by mentioning my love for three more films this year: The Bourne Ultimatum, Sicko, and Once.
There is no fancy footwork or explanations for this year's list; really, these are simply the movies I loved to watch the most. Please (as always) forgive the glaring omissions from my list as well. Many important films have yet to be released in my region, most notably 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days, Flight of the Red Balloon, and The Dutchess of Langeais. Additionally, there are a number that I just have not had a chance to see, those are, Ratatouille, There Will Be Blood, Zodiac, Lust, Caution, Michael Clayton, Into The Wild, and a few others.

Pammie, I'm happy to finally see your list. I would go so far as to say that yours was my most anticipated this year... especially after your gutsy choice of "Miami Vice" in 2006. Would you go as far out on a really cool limb again? Well, I haven't yet seen "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" - I know, I know - so I can't really say. However, "Private Fears in Public Places" is my single favorite film of 2006, I really liked "Juno," "Eastern Promises," "The Man from London," "The Darjeeling Limited" and "Colossal Youth," so maybe I should get over my thing about "The Diving Bell..." and just see it. Maybe it will be a lot better than my snobby self expects.

I've no problem with you bending the rules to add more movies; I say the more, the merrier. However, I do have a problem with you counting The Bourne Ultimatum, Sicko, and Once as two movies. Good thing that Master's is in cinema studies, not math!
Good list Pammy!
Ha! Yeah, whoops, I originally had "two" additions, but then as I was writing I remembered the third, but forgot to go back and say it was "three." So there's the whole story. Shoddy editing more than math skills, really...:)
And Mike, I am honored that my list was your most anticipated! Since we're on a roll of you wanting to listen to me, let me tell you something else: you've got to see The Diving Bell, it's simply lovely. Whether or not it makes your list, well, who can tell? But either way, it's a very good film and one that certainly stands out against the general din. Can't wait to read your review....
Great list Pam! I can now update my Netflix cue. You should add Ratatouille to yours. But who am I?
Happy New Years!
Amanda
Oh, I picked up Ratatouille on DVD tonight! Can't wait!
Happy New Year, all!
